Your Father influenced me in so many ways, even if I did rebel at the time. The lessons and all the talks we had as I was growing still stick in my with me. As I have gotten older, all those words seem to hold more weight then ever before. Believe me, I can still hear his voice in my head...and I definitely remember hearing "then what" few times. This message is far past due, but I think the world of your father.

Sam,

In tennis I believe that referred as..."game, set, match"?

Nicely done!

SS

You have turned out to be a beautiful and strong Godly woman. And because of that, you have a bulls eye on your back. Unfair at any angle, but true none the less.

Hold your head up high and stay the course, as you know. It is easier to attempt to pull you down to their level than it is for them to climb up high to your level.

Stay strong!

Well said my dear. Though I suspect that the question you raise, "Who decides..." has always been very clear, those in power (literally) and the 'ethic' they live by. It really is quite simple. Personally, I find the whole 'fine' thing silly. I remember well my early days in Phoenix when the Phoenix Suns loaded their team with what I deemed to be thugs and I quickly lost interest and stopped watching. I exercise that same right today. The privilege to 'not support' those I find offensive. Trying to create a 'politically correct' world is just silly in my mind. Kind of like locking your house, it only keeps the honest folks out, the crooks just break the window. Having said that, when you play in the NBA and agree to its governance, in that no one makes you play, then be prepared to abide by its 'ethic', ever changing as it may be. When you buy in an HOA community you agree up front to abide by its rules. And can we please stop the '...kick your ass' talk when somebody speaks their mind. What ever happened to the 'ethic' of "Sticks and Stones..." You know the rest. Wait a minute, maybe we don't know the rest, that's what this is really all about...

Later...

An amazingly reasonable, collected and level-headed response to such a hateful and ignorant article. I can't imagine I would've been near as polite or well-spoken in your shoes.

You should be applauded, Samantha. Keep your chin up!

I am sorry that you needed to post this; I am sorry your question was misconstrued; I read the question as it was intended and I wish I knew where to go to stop the madness. Was the fan the slur was directed at really offended? I never saw what the fan did to incite Noah and I am embarrassed to be lumped in the same group with some fans.

Of interest, I said the same thing when the story broke; why not fine every utterance of "Jesus Christ" or "motherf****r"? On the other hand, in the heat of the moment, athletes (and fans) curse -- doesn't mean I agree with them but I understand.

Anyway, you have my support, Samantha.

I don't follow your Twitter feed, and I don't know whether I've ever seen you on television at all (sorry!). But your post here has raised my esteem for you. Well written and reasoned and not even a little bit snarky (although that would have been well-deserved for a critic who jumped three steps too far in a faulty chain of logic).

Thanks for contributing to meaningful discussion without totally losing your mind. It's so rare in this day and age.
